What is life coaching?
Life coaching is individualized consulting based on a close partnership between a client and a life coach. This licensed profession draws on psychology, business, spirituality, and other disciplines to help clients develop self-awareness, achieve goals, and probe deep unresolved issues.
Are you ready?
A successful coaching experience requires your willingness to step outside of your comfort zone. This may involve a deep exploration of painful, unresolved issues in your life. Working with your coach to answer these difficult questions is a necessary part of understanding the choices you’ve made in the past and exploring new paths to fulfillment. You must also be willing to make the necessary changes in order to achieve your goals.
How does it work?
A coach gathers the information and personal history you provide in your questionnaire and first meeting, and looks for beliefs, underlying issues, and patterns of behavior. She develops an initial assessment and together you examine your story from a different perspective. This awareness is essential for you to begin the work of transforming your old patterns into new approaches to living.
What is the plan?
In your first meeting, you learn about your coach’s philosophy and methodology, and begin to discuss your coaching needs. You complete an extensive questionnaire covering your achievements, activities, interests, relationships, and other areas of your life. In the sessions (usually conducted over the phone) the coach continues to question and guide you toward self-awareness and establishment of goals. Homework activities are designed to take the necessary steps toward achieving these goals and breaking old patterns that have prevented you from moving forward in your life.
